Neck Pain Chiropractor Fremantle:
Find the Cause, Get Lasting Relief
Neck pain is one of the most common conditions we treat at North Fremantle Chiropractic. Whether it came on suddenly after an incident, or has been building gradually over months or years, neck pain responds well to chiropractic care when the underlying cause is properly identified and treated.
We see patients from across Fremantle, North Fremantle, East Fremantle and the surrounding area who are dealing with neck pain ranging from a stiff, achy neck through to severe pain with arm symptoms. Whatever your presentation, we start with an accurate assessment because treating the wrong thing wastes your time.
What Causes Neck Pain?
Neck pain has many potential causes. Some of the most common presentations we see include:
-
Joint dysfunction in the cervical spine — the most common cause of mechanical neck pain, often presenting as stiffness, reduced range of motion, and localised pain
-
Muscle strain and tension — from sustained postures, poor workstation setup, or sudden movement
-
Disc injuries in the cervical spine — can cause local neck pain as well as referred pain, numbness, or tingling into the arm
-
Whiplash — from motor vehicle accidents, contact sport, or sudden acceleration/deceleration
-
Cervicogenic headaches — headaches that originate from structures in the neck, often mistaken for tension headaches or migraines
-
Postural neck pain — increasingly common with prolonged screen use and desk work
-
Nerve root irritation — causing sharp or burning pain that radiates from the neck into the shoulder, arm, or hand
How We Treat Neck Pain
Assessment and Diagnosis
Your first appointment begins with a thorough history covering when and how your neck pain started, what aggravates and relieves it, and any associated symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, or arm pain. We then perform a physical examination including cervical range of motion testing, neurological assessment, and orthopaedic testing.
Where imaging is indicated particularly for whiplash or suspected disc injury we refer to local radiology clinics, most of which bulk-bill.
Treatment
Treatment for neck pain at NFC may include cervical and thoracic adjustment, soft tissue therapy targeting the muscles of the neck and upper back, dry needling, and postural rehabilitation exercises. We also address contributing factors such as workstation setup, sleeping position, and movement habits that may be perpetuating your pain.
Cervicogenic Headaches
If your neck pain is accompanied by headaches, it is worth knowing that many headaches particularly those that start at the base of the skull and radiate forward originate from structures in the cervical spine. These are known as cervicogenic headaches and they respond very well to chiropractic care.
We assess for cervicogenic headache specifically in every patient presenting with neck pain and headaches. Getting the right diagnosis here makes a significant difference to outcomes.

FAqs:
Q: How long does neck pain take to resolve with chiropractic care?
A: Acute neck pain typically responds within 4-8 sessions. Chronic or long-standing neck pain may take longer depending on the underlying cause. We'll give you a realistic timeframe at your first appointment.
Q: Can chiropractic help with a bulging disc in the neck?
A: Yes. Cervical disc injuries respond well to chiropractic care in most cases. We assess the severity and presentation carefully and refer for imaging where appropriate before proceeding with treatment.
Q: Is neck adjustment safe?
A: Yes. Cervical adjustment is a safe and effective treatment when performed by a qualified chiropractor following appropriate assessment. We screen every patient for contraindications before proceeding and adapt our technique accordingly.
Q: Can you help with neck pain that causes arm pain or tingling?
A: Yes. Arm pain, tingling, or numbness associated with neck pain often indicates nerve involvement either from a disc or from joint pressure on a nerve root. We assess this specifically and treat accordingly.
Q: Do I need a referral?
A: No referral needed. Book directly online or call 0414 316 261.
